VETERANS FLAG RETIREMENT PROGRAM
At Birdsong Cremations, we are honored to offer a meaningful way for families and individuals to pay tribute to veterans through our Veteran Flag Retirement Program. This program not only honors the service and dedication of U.S. veterans, but also provides an opportunity for anyone to donate a flag that is no longer fit for display. By donating an American flag, you can ensure that it plays a significant role in honoring a veteran’s life.
In line with The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8, the donated flag will be respectfully retired in a dignified manner, draped over the body of a veteran during the cremation process. This act allows the flag to fulfill its final patriotic duty, serving as a powerful symbol of the veteran’s sacrifice and commitment to our country. By contributing a flag, you are directly participating in this solemn tribute, ensuring that both the veteran and the flag are honored in a meaningful and respectful way.
When the flag is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. - The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8

At Birdsong Cremations, we are honored to provide a unique and meaningful way to pay tribute to our veterans through our Veteran Flag Retirement Program. In accordance with The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8, we ensure that flags, once unfit for display, are retired in a dignified manner, as a final act of respect for our country and the veterans who served it.
- Draping of the Flag: Each donated American flag will be respectfully draped over the body of a departed U.S. veteran during the cremation process. This flag's final patriotic act will be in service to a veteran, symbolizing the gratitude of the nation for their service.
- Flag Donations: Birdsong Cremations accepts donations of American flags that are no longer suitable for display. Donated flags will be used exclusively in the cremation of U.S. veterans as part of their final tribute.
- Family Permission: Before the flag is used during the cremation, Birdsong Cremations will seek permission from the veteran's family to ensure they are comfortable with this honorary gesture.
- No Charge for the Program: There is no charge for this service. It is our privilege to offer this program as a tribute to those who have served our nation.
